A concept single, with sounds created exclusively from just one synthesiser - The Peeps Music Box.

The synth was hand-crafted by S8jfou, a one-man operation, based in an off-grid cabin somewhere in the French wilderness.

Armed with 2 oscillators, a powerful wavefolder and well thought-out pre-patched design, the Peeps Music Box pays homage to the venerable Buchla Easel. With the help of a handful of guitar pedals, it became apparent very quickly that this synth is capable of covering a lot of ground across the sonic spectrum.

It was an Easter weekend, as I was knee-deep in sampling the different textures of this beast, I was called out to see a patient at the hospital. He was a prisoner in his mid-20s, who was blind in one eye, and suddenly lost vision in his only seeing eye. I explained to him his condition and the surgery he needed, in order to have a chance of salvaging some vision...but there was no guarantee. As I walked out of his prison cell, I felt for his palpable distress. All he could do was wait in the dark, completely alone inside his prison cell.

 

After I got home to resume on the project, it naturally evolved to become a cathartic medium of the prisoner's story.
